Nothing says Happy New Year like a refreshing, organic Bloody Mary, first thing on New Year’s morning. We have also found that this drink may just soothe your rough edges if you happen to wake up on New Year’s Day feeling a little edgy.
A high quality tomato juice is key to a good Bloody Mary, so try to find a premium, organic juice in the Italian section of your local grocer.
Feel free to adjust the hot sauce to your taste,by adding more or less depending in the amount of heat you desire. The same goes for the horseradish. I recommend at least a little horseradish for the flavor it adds to the drink, but it can be adjusted according to your taste as well.
For garnish I have seen everything under the sun stuffed onto the rim of the glass. There have been times where we have been guilty of the same. We put up a large Bloody Mary bar every year at our annual fishing derby and here are some of the garnishes that we set out:
- celery
- shrimp
- string cheese
- pickled asparagus
- dilly beans
- bacon
- pearl onions
- grape tomatoes
This recipe is great with or without the vodka. I generally make mine virgin but that is entirely up to you.
Please drink responsibly and please, please, please never drink and drive!
